Stoops: UGA ‘purchased some respectable players’
Oct 11, 2023, 08:59 AM ET Kentucky coach Mark Stoops openly advocated more financial support for his program after the Wildcats’ 51-13 loss to Georgia on Saturday, putting a spotlight on the NIL distinction in between his group’s players and those on the No. 1 Bulldogs.
“I can assure you– Georgia, they bought some pretty good players,” Stoops stated Monday in response to an upset fan on his weekly radio show. “You’re permitted to nowadays, and we could use some aid. It’s much to do about absolutely nothing,” Smart informed press reporters. “I think Mark is attempting to amass interest for cash from his fan base for his cumulative, and we’re all attempting to do the same in terms of trying to get cash for the collective. Mark and I spoke about NIL pregame, and we talked about it in our conference. I’m not biting on that.”
Stoops’ comments had echoes of Alabama’s Nick Saban stating in 2015 that Texas A&M “purchased every player on their team”– a remark that spurred a back-and-forth in between Saban and Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher that ran all the method until a narrow Crimson Tide victory that October.Kentucky had actually gotten in the Georgia matchup with an undefeated 5-0 record and a No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25.
