Terps QB Tagovailoa to return for senior season
Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is returning for the 2023 season, the school announced Wednesday.Taulia, the more youthful sibling of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, was a second-team All-Big 10 choice in 2022 as the Terrapins won eight games, which marked the program’s most triumphes because 2010. He tossed for 3,008 backyards and 18 goals last season. “My objective when coming to Maryland was to help Coach [Michael] Locksley turn this program around,”Taulia stated in a declaration. “After winning back-to-back championship game, I believe we have things going in the best instructions. But we’re refrained from doing yet. I’m refrained from doing yet. After cautious deliberation, I have chosen to return for my senior season. “Maryland, whose offense ranked 4th in the Big 10 (401.2 YPG )last season, rebounded from a three-game losing streak in November to win its last 2 games of the season, including a 16-12 triumph over North Carolina State in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. It has won consecutive bowl games for the first time given that 2002-03– the last 2 years of a three-year stretch when the program won at least 10 games under Ralph Friedgen.Taulia, who moved from Alabama after his freshman season in 2019, is arguably the most decorated quarterback
in Maryland history. He owns program career records in passing backyards(7,879 ), passing touchdowns(51 ), completions(665), completion percentage(67.4) and total offense(8,067 lawns). The Terrapins start the 2023 season versus Towson on Sept. 2 and begin Huge Ten play at Michigan State on Sept. 23.
