NODAKS beat Walsh County 5-1 to win A state title

JAMESTOWN– The Jamestown NODAKS captured the 2025 North Dakota A Amateur State Tournament title with a 5-1 win over Walsh County 1 on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Jack Brown Stadium.

“It’s always fun to come out and play,” NODAKS captain Danny Fischer said. “It was a beautiful weekend, credit to Walsh County, they constantly bring a lot of fans and they have simply a good time and they’re a fantastic group of guys to play. (I am) Delighted to come out on the top with a win. These do not get old. It’s constantly fun to be out here and it means a lot to get the chance to play and play with these guys and have a good time, lucky to come out with the win today.”

The NODAKS opened the scoring in the bottom of the very first with 2 runs on 3 hits to make it 2-0. The hosts included another two runs in the second when Connor Hoyt hit two-run double to the gap in left center to make it 4-0 before he scurried home on a steal of home to make it 5-0. The Wellcats got one back in the top of the 3rd on an RBI groundout to bring it more detailed at 5-1.

/ The Jamestown Sun Hoyt finished the day as one of 2 NODAKS to record 2 hits with Tate Mart being the other one. Hoyt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs while Mart went 2-for-3 with one walk, one RBI and one run.

“I made sure this time around to view a fastball pass, simply to a minimum of get my timing down and then wait on a pitch that I knew I might deal with,” Hoyt said. “I ended up getting it 2 times so chose it and let it get deep and took a swing at it, I guess.”

The NODAKS utilized three pitchers in the win, Ryan Iliff, Hoyt and Mason Lunzman. The trio combined to pitch all 7 innings quiting one run on 6 hits while striking out seven players and not strolling anyone. The Wellcats likewise utilized three pitchers, Jacob Warake, Grant Skibicki and Brett Omdahl who combined to pitch all 6 innings giving five operate on 6 hits while striking out one and walking five players.
