Dug McDaniel, one of the best point guards in the Big 10, entered the transfer portal on Monday.McDaniel took a dramatic advance as a sophomore this season, balancing 16.3 points and 4.7 helps, while shooting almost 37 %from 3-point variety. He began the season in impression fashion, scoring 26 points and dispersing seven helps in a win over St. John’s, and then had 33 points and 7 3-pointers in an overtime loss at Oregon. Right before Christmas, McDaniel opted for 33 points, eight rebounds and 5 assists in a double-overtime defeat to Florida.His season- and Michigan’s season-deviated in mid-January, when the school announced that McDaniel had actually been suspended for the Wolverines’next 6 road games. They wound up going 0-6 without McDaniel and winning simply two of their last 19 games.As a freshman, the previous ESPN 100 recruit began 26 games and averaged 8.6 points and 3.6 assists.McDaniel’s departure comes days after Michigan fired head coach Juwan Howard following an 8-24 campaign.
Howard was at the helm in Ann Arbor for five seasons.Another Michigan guard, George Washington III also went into the portal on Monday. The previous ESPN 100 recruit balanced 1.2 points in 22 games this season.
