Matt Rhule safeguards Nebraska using alternate uniforms

The Nebraska Cornhuskers recently revealed a brand-new alternate jersey for the 2025 season. For a school with an extremely standard uniform, it was seen by some as a vibrant move, but it’s likewise one that head coach Matt Rhule waits.

Just recently, quarterback Dylan Raiola shared some insight into their photoshoot to reveal the brand-new uniforms, however downplayed the alternates themselves. For his part, Rhule described that Raiola was just showing off his media training. The players are really very thrilled to break out an alternate uniform.

“Dylan’s a truly mature guy,” Matt Rhule said. “He understands what to state to you. What he’s attempting to say is that we know wearing this jersey or that jersey doesn’t make you play better. If it does, then we have way larger problems to begin with, but we have a right to do cool things.”

“At the University of Nebraska, we have a right to do what other schools do. We can head out there– in my very first year here,” Rhule said. “They had currently planned an alternate jersey my very first year. It was like the Northwestern game. Like 100 years, I remember it was just a blue summary. The guys were like, ‘Coach, can we please use blue gloves?’ And I remember it resembled when I went to Trev [Albert], and guess what? We won the game. We won the game since of how we dealt with and caught, blocked a basket for a goal– we stopped them in the redzone.”

Nebraska is going to break out its brand-new black alternate uniforms for the game versus USC. There’s an expectation that it’s going to be a night game versus a premier challenger, that makes it a great time to break out those uniforms.

“So, what I think Dylan is stating is, it’s gon na boil down to how we play,” Rhule said. “Particularly versus an excellent group like USC. We’re preparing for that being a night game. There’s absolutely nothing worse than black jerseys in the middle of the day, in my opinion. So, if you have a night game, you have black jerseys, it’s a couple days after Halloween … So we stated, ‘If we’re gon na do it.'”

The black jerseys do likewise play on Nebraska’s group history. The Cornhuskers’ defense is referred to as the “Blackshirts” and using these uniforms can play off of that.

“My wish for us is I don’t want to be a group where that’s not our thing. We’re an iconic appearance. So, I desire us to have that appearance most of the time. However I believe as soon as a year we ought to step out and do something in all black. We are the Blackshirt defense. Like when I was at Albright College our defense used black jerseys because of Nebraska. So, I believe black is a bit within our DNA of who we are traditionally. So, when a year possibly we go out there and we do a various black jersey every year … I believe it’s actually enjoyable. I think it’s cool,” Rhule stated.

“The thing that I’m learning as I go out recruiting, the kids all around the nation, or right here in Omaha, they want a cool brand name identity, name, and they want to see things like that. So, they begin the check outs. They want to put those things on. So, I need to mix the renowned nature of what we finish with some cool, swaggy things. So, if they wish to use something different from time to time, so be it. What I will not do, is talk about the record in it, the history in it. I want to know in alternate uniforms, I think, 1-0. I’ll take it. 1-0 in anything, I’ll take. So, we’re gon na head out and play. It’ll come down to who tackles better. Lincoln [Riley] is an excellent coach, however I think it’s enjoyable for us to have some enjoyable things.”

Before Nebraska has a chance to use any alternate uniforms, they’ll open the season at a neutral website on August 28th versus Cincinnati. There, the fans and players will have to choose the standard Nebraska uniforms. In the meantime, the enjoyment will develop for the alternates.

“The kids, they minimized it,” Rhule stated. “They’re really delighted about it. They try to be really professional but, believe me, they asked me about this every day … They want to feel great heading out there. So, go buy your black jerseys.”
