Inside the making of the Fox 2: Designer Reggie Wilson

CHONGQING, CHINA– San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox made a splash in the sneaker world, releasing his first signature sneaker last year under the Curry Brand name umbrella– now the 27-year-old is bringing the heat with the Fox 2.

His 2nd release continues with the running shoe-inspired shape, along with the now-signature strap, with the sneaker focusing on utilizing Fox’s breakneck speed on the court.

“He’s the fastest player in the league, so we wish to ensure that the shoe is light, and he’s able to get in and out of cuts and up and down the court as rapidly as possible, but we wish to ensure it’s still supportive and steady,” Under Armour Senior Shoes Designer Reggie Wilson told The Sporting News.

“So some of those details, like the high-wrapping midsole, the strap, the heel counter, all those things help lock him in and make sure he’s not sliding around which permits him to perform.

“We just wish to have him in a place where he’s not considering his shoes. He’s considering getting the next basket, getting the next steal, getting the next assist.”

Under Armour Wilson’s designs perfect the art of design and performance, focusing on the storytelling aspect of a signature shoe with lots of personalised information on the Fox 2, taking inspiration from Fox’s household.

“Undoubtedly, on the nose, you have the foxtail-inspired product on the tongue, so I believe that’s actually cool. The fox information here on the heel counter, that’s really essential, the signature is there, but I believe a few of the more personal stuff are things that I think I’m really thrilled about– his family, his spouse, and after that his birthday. That’s an actually cool detail in Roman numerals.

“All those components that come together that makes it seem like a signature shoe, those are the information that we truly try to strike the balance and truly get into the information when it comes to that.”

The most significant change to the new model is in the sole, with the high-abrasion UA Flow outsole for added grip and stability off the primary step, along with the TPE-blended sock liner for energy return, and an external TPU heel counter for light-weight support.

Under Armour Fox has actually been with Under Armour because October 2023, fresh off being called an All-Star, Clutch Player of the Year, and making All-NBA Third Group honours. Now with two signature sneakers under his belt, Fox has actually gotten the baton as the next generation face of Curry Brand, as the brand aims to help tell his story through his shoes, according to Gabe Heller, the Managing Director of Curry Brand Name.

“If you think of the Fox 1, we released in December. We had a bit less time. It was an introduction of customers to De’Aaron with Curry Brand Name,” Heller told The Sporting News.

[Now] we’re in August, we have more time to tell stories, more time for us to mind those bits that we’re receiving from De’Aaron, get his character. I think of it like the second chapter is going to be a lot longer than the first, so we’re pretty delighted about it.”

The Curry Fox 2 releases worldwide on August 22.
