Florida QB Kitna jailed on child pornography counts
Florida backup quarterback Jalen Kitna was jailed Wednesday on two counts of distribution of child exploitation product and three counts of possession of kid pornography.Kitna, the 19-year-old son of previous NFL quarterback Jon Kitna, was jailed by the Gainesville Authorities Department and reserved into the Alachua County jail at 3:20 p.m. ET. He is anticipated to appear in court on Thursday morning to hear the charges versus him, the GPD said.The 5 charges, which need to be
formalized by the state attorney’s office, are second-degree felonies that could result in a prison term of approximately 15 years and a fine of up to$10,000. Kitna has been suspended indefinitely from the football program.”We are surprised and saddened to hear of the news including Jalen Kitna,” the University of Florida Athletic Association said in a declaration.”These are very severe charges and the University of Florida and the UAA have absolutely no tolerance for such behavior.” According to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department, authorities got a suggestion from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Kids that a user had actually dispersed an image of child sexual abuse product on Discord, a social media platform.Police allege that an examination revealed Kitna was the likely owner of the Discord account.The Gainesville Cops Department stated Kitna was talked to by officers and that he informed them he believed the images he shared were”legal”because he found them online. Police state they browsed Kitna’s electronic devices and found 3 more images of kid sexual abuse material.A redshirt freshman, Kitna appeared in four games this season, completing 10 of 14 passes for 181 lawns and a touchdown.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
