- Expense Connelly is a personnel author for ESPN.com.Florida won it for the very first five years, then Tennessee and Florida divided the next 5. Georgia won three of four, then Florida did the exact same. Georgia won two of 3, then Missouri came out of nowhere to win back-to-back. Florida won two times as Georgia was transitioning into the Kirby Smart era, during which Georgia has actually won 5 of six. The SEC East has constantly had a lead pet dog of sorts, even if that group has changed through the years.Thirty-two years after it originated the divisional structure– a relocation so substantial that we made a documentary about it– the SEC will be embracing the trend of dropping its departments when it includes Oklahoma and Texas in 2024.(We’ll see if the league ultimately does the right thing and relocates to nine conference games so its teams can in fact all play each other. Child steps.)As with the Big Ten West( a variety of defense-centric teams will battle for the last title)and East (oh, hello, Michigan and Ohio State begin on top yet once again), it feels the SEC East will go out with a familiar story: The lead Dawg is a heavy favorite. Can Tennessee or anybody else defy the odds and threaten the two-time defending national champ? And which groups might stand apart amongst the department’s customarily big middle class?Let’s preview the SEC East one last time!Every week through the offseason, Costs Connelly will sneak peek another department from the Group of 5 and Power 5 solely for ESPN +, ultimately including all 133 FBS
teams. The sneak peeks will consist of 2022 breakdowns, 2023previews and burning questions for each team.
