Blue Jay underclassmen grateful for 2025 All-State honors

JAMESTOWN– There are 5 underclassmen on the 2025 Girls Soccer All-State Group.

“At the beginning of the season I had an objective to just improve from in 2015, not even thinking about being named All-State,” stated Jamestown High School sophomore Amelia Newman. “I was honestly surprised at getting All-State. I do think I began the season off pretty strong, but towards the end I was having a bit of a rough spot so getting called All-State stunned me.”

Newman was named to the First-Team, All-State roster recently. Newman’s colleague, Layla Becker, a freshman, was named to this year’s Second-Team roster.

“I worked as hard as I might this whole season, however I didn’t expect to get rewarded for my hard work,” Newman stated. “I’m simply thankful coaches acknowledged how difficult I worked throughout the season and I believe hardworking players need to be rewarded for their effort and commitment.”

This season is Newman’s first being named to the All-State group.

“There wasn’t actually a point in the season where I knew I would get All-State,” Newman stated. “The objective I had versus Mandan when we played them in your home truly made me feel like I was enhancing due to the fact that I understand last year I don’t believe I would’ve can that.”

Newman led the Jays in scoring this spring with eight goals and six helps for 14 total points. She has been playing soccer considering that the summertime before her sixth grade year.

“When I initially moved here I was torn between continuing playing softball or attempting something new, and the good friends I made best away convinced me to try soccer,” Newman stated. “The minute I began playing soccer I understood I would stay with it. It immediately became my preferred sport.”

Newman has actually been on the Jays’ university lineup considering that the end of her seventh grade year.

“When I started high school soccer it felt odd to have fun with girls who were a lot older and more experienced than me, now I are among the older girls and that seems crazy to me now,” Newman said.

Newman will be one of four juniors on the Blue Jays’ lineup next year.Since the prep season ended, Newman has actually been taking a while off however stated she is planning on practicing a few times a week and potentially going to a competition before her volley ball season gets in late August.Becker doesn’t have another sport to get ready for– instead she is still training for soccer.This summer, Becker will be going to a couple of different soccer tournaments, camps and practicing

“I was a little disappointed in myself with this season and was expecting more from myself but I’m still happy coaches thought I had a good enough season to make Second-Team.
