AAC takes hoops tourneys to Birmingham, Tampa

May 30, 2025, 02:32 PM ET IRVING, Texas– The American Athletic Conference is taking its postseason basketball competitions to 2 brand-new venues for the league after a five-year run in Texas.The AAC announced Friday that both guys’s and ladies’s tournaments will be played next year at Tradition Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, will host in 2027 and 2028.

AAC athletic directors authorized the venues and cities that will be novice hosts for those league competitions. All 4 finalists for the brand-new websites were home cities of AAC members, with the other finalists being previous host Memphis, Tennessee, and Wichita, Kansas.Editor’s Picks

  • 1 Associated The basketball competitions were held the previous five seasons at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. That location was also set to host the AAC men in 2020 before conference competitions and the NCAA competition were canceled that year since of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    “We are thrilled to bring our basketball championships to Birmingham and Tampa,” AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti stated. “Our top priority when we began this bid process was to deliver the best possible experience for our student-athletes. The ability of Birmingham and Tampa to accommodate both champions and the year-round support that we will receive from their particular regional committees will help to make these occasions a memorable experience for our players and fans.”
