Unusual things can take place behind closed doors. Just ask the Fairleigh Dickinson guys’s basketball team. The Knights’game against host Long Island University on Thursday night was postponed about 17 minutes due to the fact that they were stuck in an elevator at Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn while going from the court to the locker space before tipoff.Ansley Almonor
, a junior center for Fairleigh Dickinson, told ESPN’s Myron Medcalf that he and a few of his colleagues had hopped into an elevator before the game. Whatever seemed typical after they pressed the button to decrease a couple of floors till the elevator all of a sudden stopped. And then, it got dark.
“The lights went off and we were much like, ‘Oh, no,'” stated Almonor, who ended up with 19 points and 9 rebounds in his team’s 84-82 win at LIU. “We’re attempting to push the button and the button lights weren’t beginning. It was crazy. One of my teammates was in there with me, he was claustrophobic. He panicked a bit, however for me, it wasn’t absolutely nothing too bad. It was simply getting hot though. It was getting really, truly hot. We were sweating therein.”
Once they all restored their composure, they shouted for help and even called a colleague. However then they located the emergency button on the elevator and they were told that assistance would get here quickly. Almonor stated they simply talked and chuckled about the wild moment until New York City firefighters got here about 10 minutes later.
“It was relieving to see the doors finally open and see them assisting us to leave the elevator,” he said.As an outcome of the pregame accident, game authorities offered FDU additional time for warmups. Then, FDU won the game. For Almonor, it was a remarkable night even without the elevator problem. The junior, who helped his group upset top-seed Purdue in the NCAA competition last year, scored his 1,000 th profession point in the win.But that’s not the only factor he stated he’ll constantly keep in mind the
game.”It’s probably a top-three most remarkable night of my career,”he said.”This is up there. This is a funny, funny, funny minute. I’ll never forget this one. “
