Anthony Gharib, ESPNJan 8, 2024, 11:45 PM ET The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines defeated the No. 2 Washington Huskies 34-13 to win their very first College Football Playoff Championship game and outright nationwide title considering that 1948 (the Wolverines divided the title with the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 1997).
The 74 years in between outright nationwide titles is the most in the AP Poll period, according to ESPN Stats & Info research. In his 13th season as an FBS head coach, Jim Harbaugh becomes the first individual to win his very first nationwide title this late into a head-coaching profession given that the Texas Longhorns’ Mack Brown in 2005.
