Jeff Sims, a previous four-star hire, began all of the Jackets’ 10 games as a freshman and is poised to take an advance in 2021. There were flashes of sparkle last season, and flashes of finding out opportunities, as Sims finished 54.9 percent of his tosses while tossing an equivalent 13 goals and interceptions. The genuine appeal from Sims came from his double threat ability, hurrying 120 times for 492 yards and six scores, though it’s fair to question whether the Jackets want Sims to run basically this season. They hit the transfer portal difficult for offensive linemen, and have an extremely capable stable of running backs led by Jahmyr Gibbs and Jordan Mason, which might keep Sims in the pocket more, running only as necessary. Sims topped 250 lawns only once last season, and while development as a passer is expected, the Jackets are only in Year 2 of a non-option offense. There’s minimal firepower out broad, and Sims may be a year far from a full breakout as an outcome.
