Blue Jays on a three-game win streak, more action Thursday

JAMESTOWN– Jamestown High School head baseball coach, Tim Ranum, had a motivating conversation with senior pitcher Derek Hatlewick in the top of the seventh inning on Tuesday.

“He came out and stated, ‘you’re great, you have actually got it. You feel good?'” Hatlewick said. “I resembled, ‘yep’ and he resembled ‘all right, go get ’em.'”

The end of the discussion signaled the end of the road for St. Mary’s.

Hatlewick and heaven Jays provided a 5-3, 6-5 sweep versus Bismarck St. Mary’s. The pair of wins enhances Jamestown’s record to 3-3 in conference and 4-4 general. Jamestown will end up out the week on Thursday with a roadway tilt at Bismarck High. First pitch is set up to be delivered at 4:30 p.m.

“It’s time that we go on a winning streak,” Ranum stated. “We played really well in game two on Saturday … and game one was quite solid effort. We left some go out there however that is simply how it goes. We are still type of finding out who we are however that is how it is in early season baseball.”

Jamestown started things at the plate in the first, taking a 1-0 lead however St. Mary’s responded in the top of the third and produced a two-run inning.

“We were type of quiet there and after that Braxton (Perkins) practically struck one out of the park,” Ranum said. “We were type of dead in the water for 2 innings in a row there then all of the sudden we got a little life. The next number of guys worked some strolls and got bases packed.

“The bottom of the order actually did their task all day,” he stated. “They developed a great deal of traffic. I just desire the guys to never ever give up on an inning. Any inning can be a good inning.”

In an attempt to come within among the game leaders, Connor Schatz ripped a double to center field to put runners at 2nd and 3rd.

Jamestown scored its final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Thomas Newman. Hatlewick had some misses out on in the top of the seventh, however after his discussion with Ranum, the senior calmed down. Hatlewick caught Zander wanting to earn out No. 2.
